Course Description:
This workshop will guide teachers and administrators toward understanding their school's discipline policies and to better understand and manage disruptive and violent behaviors. It is designed to help create and maintain safe and orderly environments.
Participants will identify the practical and legal definitions of force as well as their rights and responsibilities, particularly regarding the use of physical restraint. They will also learn to correctly describe and document incidents and explore strategies and techniques that are preventative. This workshop is an essential tool for all school personnel.
This workshop is part of the Constructive Discipline Series, consisting of four workshops, Giving Directives That Students Will Follow, Stopping Disruptive Behavior, Conducting the Parent Conference, and Rights and Responsibilities in the Disciplinary Process offered separately and as a group, is derived from Dr. William Glasser’s Choice Theory of behavior. Dr. Glasser is the founder of the William Glasser Institute and has published many books and articles where he details his theories and provides much supporting data on the efficacy of his approach. His approach is self-empowering and emphasizes the individual’s own responsibility. The Constructive Discipline Series uses techniques that are used in the field of education as well as in the area public service and corporate management. The courses are designed specifically for teachers and paraprofessionals in the classroom.

How do I sign up?
Register as usual using the LAPDA Registration form. You can choose as many modules as you wish. Once your registration has been processed, you will receive a course code by email from LAPDA with instructions on how to sign in to access the course. The course must be completed within 105 days. In the event that you can not complete the course within the allotted time, you must pay an additional $25 to LAPDA in order to be given a two week extension. Once you have completed the class, you can contact LAPDA for a certificate of attendance.
