Target Audience:
* School/district/CTE math, ELA, and content (e.g. science, social studies, other technical subjects) leaders
* Other educators responsible for oversight/professional learning for supplemental academic services to students (e.g., special ed; Title I; after-school)
* Principals, curriculum coordinators, those responsible for preparation of pre-service educators; consultants providing professional learning in the region
ESSENTIAL PREREQUISITES FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS:
1.Strong content knowledge and facilitation skills
2.Dedicated time to devote to the implementation of CCSS professional learning in their schools/districts/centers/programs
3.An Awareness (Phase 1) level of knowledge about the CCSS
4.A close reading of the CCSS in Mathematics or ELA/Literacy
5.A close reading of “Vermont’s Transition to the Common Core State Standards” professional learning plans
Purpose of the Regional Trainings:
1. To examine key instructional shifts implicit in the CCSS and addressed in the VT-DOE professional learning plans;
2. To provide school/district leaders with the knowledge necessary to guide educator understanding of the instructional shifts in the CCSS;
3. To prepare those leaders with processes so they can deliver effective professional learning for educators as they implement the CCSS successfully in their classrooms.
ELA Agenda Outline:
AM – Text Complexity K-12 with embedded vocabulary strategies for all grade levels (grade level table groups)
Focused session for principals last hour before lunch – instructional culture and systems discussion
PM - Breakout 1: K-2 and K-5 Integration of Literacy Standards across Content Areas;
Breakout 2: 6-12 Integration of Literacy Standards across Content Areas (including literary nonfiction)
Mathematics Agenda Outline:
AM – Mathematical Practices: Bringing the Print to Performance.
Focused session for principals last hour before lunch – instructional culture and systems discussion
PM - Breakout 1: K-5: Operations and Algebraic Thinking
Breakout 2: 6-8: Expressions, Equations, and Functions
Breakout 3: HS: Modeling
