A mid-level workshop on Creating classroom management with community at the heart.
Workshop Description:
Learn how to implement needs-based, developmentally-appropriate practices to increase student self-management, motivation, and connection to school. In the Developmental Designs 1 workshop, you will learn practical ways to: Increase student motivation through gaining student endorsement of learning routines and building community Increase student self-management and reduce misbehavior through student-generated rules, modeling and practicing learning routines, and responding effectively to rule breaking Develop respectful teacher-student relationships by infusing enjoyment into daily learning and teacher language that redirects while preserving students’ dignity Meet students’ powerful adolescent developmental needs in prosocial ways Build a supportive learning community through advisory structures Increase equitable, orderly participation and reduce student interruptions through whole-group conversation management structures
